Discover the best of local wine, beer and cider in the pubs and bars of the Matakana Coast

Discover the best of local wine, beer and cider in the pubs and bars of the Matakana Coast.

A cold drink tastes so good after a day on the road, so why not meet up with friends and enjoy a glass of something local? If it’s a garden bar kind of day, head to the heritage pubs at Puhoi, Matakana and Warkworth, or the Bridgehouse Hotel, for live music and good vibes.

While in Warkworth, duck down the alleyway on Neville Street to find Tahi Bar, a local favourite for a wide selection of craft beers on tap, live music and casual eats.

Overlooking the cherry trees of the Matakana Village square, The Vintry Wine Centre & Lounge Bar operates as a shared cellar door for Matakana winegrowers and serves wines, craft beers and premium spirits by the glass.  With a sheltered deck to watch the sunset and a roaring fire in winter, The Vintry offers a cosy atmosphere any night of the week.

If music is your thing, stop by the Leigh Sawmill Café and check out the latest gig guide over a beer and a pizza. For a rustic country vibe, check out Smith bar for tapas and cocktails. Sports fans can shoot some pool or catch the latest game at the Rusty Tui in the heart of Matakana village or at Leigh Bar out in Leigh.

And after a day at sea, there’s nothing quite like a sundowner overlooking the water, at the Bon Accord Bar & Bistro on Kawau Island, or the Sandspit Yacht Club Bar & Kitchen.
