A welcoming walk-in clay studio in Matakana offering casual pottery workshops, wheel sessions and ceramic painting, perfect for a creative day out, hens parties, team building or a fun activity with friends.

Clay Friends is located halfway between Warkworth and Matakana and is where creativity comes first and perfection isn’t the point.

Run by Carly and Theo Leach of Leach Studio Ceramics, this friendly workshop and small store was born from a long-held dream to give locals and visitors alike a relaxed space to get their hands dirty and make something of their own.

Drop into a casual Play With Clay session to catch up with a friend or keep the kids entertained while shaping your own ceramic piece, try your hand at the pottery wheel in a small-group introduction session, or pick up a pre-made piece and personalise it with coloured underglazes in a ceramic painting session. No experience is needed, just a willingness to get a little messy and enjoy the process.
