Members of the Morrison family will be talking about the history of Morrison Orchards from Red Bluff in 1873 to today. We will also be telling the story of Lemora Winery which was started in Matakana by Alexi Migonouff in the 1930s.

As part of the wider Matakana Coast Feast – ‘Terroir to my Winter Table’ The Warkworth Museum is providing visitors the opportunity to discover the rich history of fruit and wine on the Matakana Coast with this special exhibition and talk: Auckland’s Fruit Bowl: The Heritage Stories of Morrison’s orchards and Lemora Winery.
Matakana’s wine story dates back to the 1930s, when Russian immigrant Alexi Migounouff developed a fortified citrus wine from fruit on his farm. The ‘wine of the golden fruit’ was christened Lemora and became a favourite tipple of renowned author Frank Sargeson.
